Delegates from TNGO attended the 2024 UN Summit of the Future in New York to reimagine multilateral cooperation in the 21st century
NEW YORK CITY – NY, 26 SEPTEMBER, 2024
On 22-23 September, TNGO delegates Theodora Terracina and Riccardo Villa attended the 2024 UN Summit of the Future at the UN headquarters in New York City. The Summit was a pivotal event aimed at addressing global challenges and strengthening global governance in response to complex issues like climate change, pandemics, inequality, digital governance, peace, and security. Summit attendees, included Member States, civil society and private sector representatives, academics, youth, and local and regional leaders, offering them a chance to focus on restoring trust in UN institutions. World leaders adopted a ‘Pact for the Future’ as a blueprint for reforming multilateral institutions and global governance.
“The Summit of the Future comes at an unprecedented moment of crisis in multilateral governance, with many questioning the future and effectiveness of international organizations like the United Nations,” said Giacomo Di Capua, Founder and Executive Director of TNGO.
“TNGO’s commitment to shaping global agendas through high-quality, data-driven recommendations has been integral to our global engagement strategy. The organization was indeed among the 44 worldwide to contribute to Secretary General A. Guterres’ ‘A New Agenda for Peace’,” Di Capua said.
As our world becomes increasingly interconnected through technology and logistics, yet more divided politically and institutionally, the need for enhanced global cooperation is pressing for sustainable development to be resilient to global crises. Including younger generations is crucial, as their perspective bridges current challenges such as climate change, disinformation and global pandemics, to future generations’ needs and aspirations. For this reason, multilateral cooperation can and should also be promoted by financing and systematically supporting youth-led innovation. As a non-profit, youth-led organization spanning 38 countries, TNGO is at the forefront of this effort by combatting disinformation by empowering young scholars and journalists and providing reliable analyses of current political events.
