2 June 2024, Rome, Italy. On June 1, 2024, The New Global Order hosted an online workshop, moderated by EU Affairs Director Flora Marlene Willimek and with Alberto De Filippis as a speaker, exploring the current state of journalism in Italy, its political landscape, and the challenges journalists face in carrying out their duties.

Senior reporter and producer Albert De Filippis kickstarted the workshop by offering a historical introduction of Italian journalism, while drawing comparisons with other European journalistic environments. De Filippis then dived into the challenges Italian journalism and journalists have faced in the past, and the ones they must face in the future — such as AI.

Attendants participated in two interactive exercises centered on recognizing AI-generated headlines — with all attendees incapable of recognizing the AI-generated headlines on two different rounds — and crafting headlines from news articles under the guidance of De Filippis.

The New Global Order extends its gratitude to Albert De Filippis for sharing his insights and expertise with attendants and looks forward to the possibility of hosting future events to advance media literacy and raise awareness on the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism, the media, and disinformation.
