11 May 2024, Rome, Italy. From May 8 to 10, The New Global Order had the opportunity to attend the 9th Annual Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Forum, hosted at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and centered around the theme “Science, technology and innovation for reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”.
Every year, the STI Forum brings together high-level policymakers, Ministers, and senior government officials with scientists, engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and representatives of organized science and technology communities, the UN system, and international organizations. The Forum, thus, aims to act as a venue for facilitating the establishment of networks and the development, transfer, and dissemination of relevant technologies for the SDGs.
The forum had an exclusive focus on the role and contributions of science, technology, and innovation to sustainable development and aimed to review five major goals from the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda (SDGs 1, 2, 13, 16, and 17), highlighting the need to localize resources and anticipate needs. The Forum also served to provide insight and fresh ideas to tackle sustainability, focusing on two main themes: getting ahead of the curve in anticipation and developing a renewed plan for forward movement.
Through a series of side events, thematic sessions, and representative discussions, attendees of the Forum attentively listened and actively participated. As multiple themes became noticeably recurrent throughout the week, the plan to anticipate needs and localize resources was evident throughout. Throughout the Forum, opening and continuing dialogue for cooperation was a constant.
As a youth-led organization, The New Global Order highlights the side event “Ensuring Good Food for All, Today and Tomorrow,” hosted by the World Food Forum, in which emphasis on paving the way for young individuals to become further involved in science was given and an immense platform was provided to the youth initiatives led by the World Food Forum, the Food and Agricultural Organization, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.
The New Global Order expresses its gratitude for having the possibility to attend the 9th Annual Science, Technology, and Innovation Forum and looks forward to continuing to represent the youth at the center of policy debate and exchange of ideas for the advancement of the 2030 Sustainable Agenda.
